The Luminor GMT's case is an updated version of one of the legendary models that Officine Panerai created for Navy commandos during the Second World War. At the time, there were no specialised underwater watches, and the Florentine manufacture was the first to create this watchmaking speciality with the Radiomir, and a short time later, with the Luminor models, which were easy to identify for their size and aesthetic qualities. The winding crown is made waterproof not by using screws, but by a bridge-like mechanism with a hinged section in the centre, which Officine Panerai patented more than half a century ago, and which still makes the watch immediately identifiable. The dial,in the traditional black, bears two large Arabic numerals and 24-hour linear markings, indicated by the slender central hand that makes a complete rotation not in 12 hours, but in 24 hours.
